Beyond the Page

Diosdado Galan Gica is a Filipino American writer born in Cebu, Philippines, and raised in the United States. His fiction explores family, migration, memory, belonging, and the ways the places we leave continue to shape us.

Before turning his attention more fully to writing, he spent his career in education and nonprofit leadership, working as a teacher and executive in New York. He holds a doctorate in education and a bachelor's degree in English literature.

His first novel, Labor Day at Pleasure Dome, explores chosen family, desire, memory, and loss in San Francisco's Castro. His second, The Balikbayans, is a multigenerational story of family, migration, inheritance, and belonging rooted in Cebu, Philippines, and the Filipino American experience.

He lives in New Jersey and is currently at work on The Balikbayans.
